Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit

The hospital’s core services include cardiology, cardio thoracic surgery, spinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, ear-nose and throat surgery, specialist physicians and the following paediatric services – general, neurological, cardiology and gastroenterology services. 

 

We currently have vacancies for Registered Nurses in our Intensive Care Units – Cardio ICU, Multi ICU and General ICU for night and day duty.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure assessment, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of cost-effective holistic care to meet patient needs
  • Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of Practice and assumes total responsibility for these activities
  • Ensuring a safe working environment according to the health & safety standards and policies.
  • Working with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure all the patients’ needs are met.
  • Ensure accurate patient records and auditing of such records to ensure compliance to legal requirements.
  • Maintain a safe patient environment in order enforcing infection control principles and policies. 
  • Participate in Doctor’s rounds and ensure that the requests and prescriptions are executed according to the hospital standard.
  • Assisting with in service training and orientation when applicable. 
  • Controlling, billing, and managing stock according to the hospital protocol.
  • Management and care of equipment and reporting faults to the clinical engineering department.
  • Maintain a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the Unit Manager.
  • Performing all duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH) and National Core standards

Experience and Requirements

  • Work experience in a private hospital will be an advantage.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an Intensive Care Unit is essential.
