We currently have a vacancy for a highly skilled and motivated Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team in the General & Orthopaedic Theatres.

Role

The incumbent will be responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, and patient-centred perioperative care in accordance with professional standards and hospital policies.

The role ensures optimal theatre preparation, efficient surgical assistance, and effective recovery care while maintaining strict infection prevention and control measures.

The incumbent supports the Unit Manager in fostering teamwork, developing staff competence, optimizing resource utilization, and ensuring patient safety and satisfaction throughout the surgical process.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage sterile surgical environments for spinal procedures.
  • Scrub for spinal surgeries and assist the surgical team as required.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Ensure accurate instrument counts and efficient handling of surgical equipment.
  • Provide holistic patient care and support during perioperative phases.
  • Ensuring accurate charging by managing theatre clocking time.
  • Ensuring consignment stock, equipment and prosthesis is charged according to the policy.
  • Managing stock by participating in regular stock taking and controlling of the consignment stock in accordance with the hospital (local) policy.
  • Obtaining the correct information pre - operatively and visiting the patient post - operatively.
  • Ensuring that the patient is comfortable and assist the doctor during surgical procedure. 

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in General Nursing, a post basic qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing will be advantageous.

Experience and Requirements

  • Current registration with SANC as a Registered Nurse.
  • Theatre experience, with proven scrub experience in General and Orthopaedic procedures preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of theatre protocols and sterile techniques.
