Role

Are you passionate about developing nursing excellence and strengthening clinical practice?


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Facilitator to lead and support clinical training and professional development within our wards.


This role is ideal for a clinically strong, motivated nursing professional who thrives in mentoring, coaching, and driving quality patient care standards.

Responsibilities

A. Clinical Facilitation and Training

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver structured learning programmes for ward staff.
  • Conduct clinical coaching during shifts to ensure safe clinical practice and ongoing skills development.
  • Participate clinical orientation for new staff and students.
  • Provide one-on-one or group teaching based on identified learning gaps.

 

B. Competency Assessment

  • Conduct and document competency assessments for staff and students.
  • Ensure completion and validation of clinical logbooks and rotation records.
  • Identify staff requiring remediation and provide targeted development support.
  • Monitor compliance with Scope of Practice, nursing standards, and ward protocols.

 

C. Quality, Risk, and Accreditation Support

  • Support wards in meeting OHSC, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in quality improvement initiatives and audits (IPC, medication safety, patient safety indicators, etc.).
  • Identify high-risk clinical practices and implement improvement interventions.
  • Participate in clinical governance meetings, risk forums, and quality discussions.

 

D. Learning & Development Administration

  • Develop educational materials, competency checklists and training schedules.
  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance registers, assessment results, statistics, and progress reports when needed.
  • Provide monthly education reports to the Training Unit Manager.

 

E. Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Serve as a professional role model and mentor, promoting excellence in patient care.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with Unit Managers, Clinical Pharmacist, IPC Practitioner, HR, and external training institutions.

Education

  • Registered Nurse with valid SANC registration.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant clinical experience in ward settings.
  • Qualification in Nursing Education is advantageous.
  • Qualification as an Assessor and Moderator is essential.


 

Experience and Requirements

  • Proven experience in clinical training and competency assessment.
  • Knowledge of orthopaedic, cardiology and medical disciplines.

  • Clinical Expertise: Strong ward-based nursing knowledge and hands-on competence.
  • Teaching & Mentoring: Ability to guide, train, assess, and support staff and students.
  • Communication: Clear, confident, and professional communication skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to identify clinical risks, prioritise, and resolve challenges.
  • Organisation: Efficient management of training schedules and documentation.
  • Leadership: Acts as a role model and promotes excellence in clinical practice.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Builds rapport and fosters collaborative working relationships.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a busy ward environment and adjusts training priorities accordingly.
